AADB Board Meeting Highlights

As the AADB President, I would like to give you a brief summary of our recent board meeting that took place on March 19-21, 2010. The AADB Board of Directors had a face-to-face meeting at DeSales Conference Center in Brooklyn, Michigan. We give special thanks to Holley Institute, Starbucks Coffee, Lions Club, CSDVRS, Sorenson Communications, Access Interpreting, Humanware, Michigan Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and individual donors for making this meeting possible. In addition to the ten board members, fifteen interpreters and nine support service providers (SSPs) were at the meeting.

Here are some board meeting highlights:

Board Training

We received training on board roles and responsibilities from an organization called Nonprofit Network. This training included Board 101, Board Assessment, Board Development, and Fundraising.

SSP Program

We approved an SSP Services proposal. This proposal expands AADB's SSP program during national symposiums so we can:

  1. provide formal SSP training during our preconference and give certificates to trained SSPs after the end of AADB national symposiums, and
  2. provide direct SSP services in areas where deaf-blind people live and work that currently have no SSP programs or services. For more information about our SSPs...

2011 Symposium

We also approved a tentative schedule for the 2011 Symposium to be held June 19-24 at the Drawbridge Inn in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky:

  • Sunday (6/19):
    Afternoon arrival, evening opening ceremony
  • Monday-Thursday (6/20-6/23):
Workshops, exhibits, special interest group meetings and AADB's general business meeting; and,
  • Thursday evening (6/23):
    Closing banquet or reception.

Please check out the other activities that AADB has been doing. And most importantly, I would like to thank you for your support to AADB. I look forward to seeing all of you at our symposium!

Sincerely yours,
Dan Arabie
