AADB has been involved in more broadband issues for people with disabilities recently. Elizabeth Spiers, AADB’s Director of Information Services, attended a networking breakfast hosted by Internet Innovation Alliance (IIA). People met at the networking breakfast to discuss the best ways to carry out the National Broadband Plan developed by the Federal Communications Commission. Ms. Spiers mentioned that some deaf-blind people need financial assistance to obtain technology so they can access broadband services (such as a Braille display for a Braille user that permits him or her to use a computer). She also said that many deaf-blind people with low incomes need financial assistance for broadband services.
Internet Innovation Alliance is a coalition of key players, including businesses, non-profit organizations, think tanks, and corporations, who take an interest in having Internet available for everyone.
